L'Artocarpe knows when members benefit from our platform, on the day we receive letters from them, with sincere words of gratitude... that is the case for the young and talented Guadeloupean artist, Samuel Gelas, who left Guadeloupe last November (2014) under the guidance of L'Artocarpe's Art Director Régine Cuzin, as he was accepted to a initial two months residency at La Cité des Arts, in Paris. Since then, he managed to have exhibitions in prestigious Parisian galleries and had the good surprise to receive an extension of his residency until November 2015! Samuel Gelas will no doubt, be soon a reference for every household... Let's hear from him, in his own words (sorry in French!)

Samuel Gelas's work
Samuel Gelas's work
Bonjour L’Artocarpe,

Cordialement.
Samuel GELAS.

Artist Isabelle Levenez, member of L'Artocarpe Paris has inaugurated a new formula, not yet used at L'Artocarpe: a residency with her family!

Isabelle Levenez managed to create a beautiful show of artworks created while in residency at L'Artocarpe. Watercolour drawings, videos were part of the ending show, for our full delight...

Isabelle has a long experience of having her work within Parisian galleries, selling through her collectors and publishing regular exhibition catalogues.
Her art seats in many national public collections, throughout France.

2015: an outstanding year for our small organisation!
L'Artocarpe was set up in 2008 to be launched in 2009. In six years of running, our platform has quickly become a strong reference for the promotion of contemporary art. With over 70 members who have registered since then, L'Artocarpe is proud to have assisted artists, academic researchers, art professionals such as critics and curators in the promotion of their work. L'Artocarpe has influenced many to further study art; to set up their own studio; to publish; to try different avenues; to work in pairs or in group and above all, to be part of a real international network... A lot achieved just for this year alone. Have a look to our diary below (in French)

A Poetics of Relation: Caribbean Women Writing at the Millennium fosters a dialogue across
islands and languages between established and lesser-known authors, bringing together
archipelagic and diasporic voices from the Francophone and Hispanic Antilles. This study
underscores the socio-cultural impact of emigration and the perpetual self-redefinition that results
from this phenomenon. Without denying the enduring impact of former colonial divisions or
minimizing the specificities to each bloc in the region, Ferly shows that a comparative analysis of
female narratives is often most pertinent across linguistic zones.

“Combining a comprehensive overview of foundational theories and questions with insightful close readings, Ferly offers a new
direction for scholars and students of women’s writing in the Caribbean.”—Sally Barbour, professor of Romance Languages, Wake
Forest University
“Ferly’s innovative dialogue across race, ethnicity, islands, languages, and oceans, challenges colonial inheritances by engaging
polyphonic Francophone, and Hispanophone Caribbean female narratives in a profusion of creative networks summoning the
continually shifting matrix of the mangrove.”—Catherine Reinhardt, Chapman University
“A solid contribution to studies on contemporary women’s writings from the French and Spanish Caribbean rooted in the
ecologically-minded and innovative paradigm of the mangrove.”--Dawn Duke, chair of Africana Studies and associate professor of
Spanish and Portuguese, University of Tennessee
