Carlos Garrido, is an academic researcher at the University of Granada (Spain) where he works as part of the Department of Las Americas.

His research is partly carried out on contemporary art practices from the Caribbean, he started numerous field studies in Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad, Santo-Domingo, Puerto-Rico…) so as to record artists’voice.

While staying at L’Artocarpe (May 2011), Carlos was able to meet with artists, visit their studios, buy books and catalogues and conduct interviews.
Carlos also gave a presentation on the outline of his research.
Carlos wishes to thank L’Artocarpe for the assistance both on the logistics and on the welcoming that he got from all the artistes, who took their time to come, drive him around and offer interesting literature.

He shall continue his visit to Martinique, then to Paris, where he is aware of the numerous artists from the French Caribbean being established there…

Other professionals agree on the stress-free application to attend a residence at L'Artocarpe! They appreciate the assistance and the efficiency. Other artists are due to arrive very soon at L'Artocarpe for further exchanges and creativity... Keep an eye on this page!
